Newcastle University – Student Reflections & End of Program Presentation

06/06/2026

event overview

Local Narratives is a grassroots organization that connects rural India with the rest of the world through immersive learning programs. It is currently approved as a 3-credit course at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and is being offered as a credit-based program in several universities and schools across India, Japan, and Australia. One such program at an Australian university concluded yesterday. Over four weekends, students immersed themselves in learning about Indian villages and the many lessons they offer. The spark and enthusiasm generated through the experience were so profound that the university offered a dedicated space for students to present their final reflections and projects from the four-week journey. Students arrived with very different perspectives on India, but they left with greater humility, empathy, and a deeper understanding of people, communities, and the planet. Many expressed a renewed aspiration to pursue work that is closer to both people and nature.
